A design project is most valuable when decisions are interconnected: layout, lighting, electrical points, plumbing, furniture, finishes and custom details. It reduces improvisation on site but does not remove the need for technical checks and client approvals.
When a full project is useful
Consider it for design-led renovation, layout changes, several custom furniture elements, complex lighting, multiple finish transitions or remote project management. It creates a common reference for the client, project manager and trades.
When a smaller package may be enough
A straightforward cosmetic update may only require measurements, a layout, electrical and lighting schemes and selected finish information. The deliverables should reflect the actual risk and complexity rather than a package name.
Typical deliverables
A measured plan, space-planning options, demolition and construction plans, furniture placement, electrical and lighting layouts, finish decisions, specifications and 3D renders as agreed. Revision limits and the number of views should be stated.
Design supervision
Design supervision checks implementation against the design intent and resolves design questions. It does not replace the project manager's technical quality control. The service and visit frequency are priced separately.
